General Course Info

Our approach

NES Hand Therapy training runs courses in North London as well as being hosted around the UK and worldwide. Bespoke courses covering topics of your choice can be provided in your workplace, both within the UK and internationally. Nicola, Elaine and Sarah are all practising hand therapists and therefore draw on their recent clinical cases as well as their years of experience to keep the training current and varied.

NES teaches all aspects of hand therapy, including knowledge and skills and is engaged by several suppliers of hand therapy consumables to teach splinting theory and techniques. A maximum ratio of 1:12 delegates is recommended to ensure that everyone receives personal attention.

All delegates receive extensive lecture notes for each course. Aims and pre-course reading lists are provided for BAHT validated courses. Each course has a detailed evaluation form to ensure we continue to meet your needs.

A BAHT certificate is awarded to each participant on passing the assessment process of a validated course. This provides modular points towards the qualification “Accredited Hand Therapist, BAHT”.

Certificates of attendance are given for BAHT non-validated courses.

IDEAS FOR A COURSE?

BAHT Validated Courses

What is BAHT?

The British Association of Hand Therapists (BAHT) is a registered charity whose aim is to advance and promote the study and general knowledge of the treatment of the hand. BAHT aims to encourage high standards of care, education and research in the field of hand rehabilitation. Membership of BAHT is open to Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists with a special interest in hand rehabilitation. NES Hand Therapy Training has been teaching BAHT validated courses since 1994, helping the new generation of hand therapists acquire the skills and knowledge they need to practice competently and gain their qualification “Accredited Hand Therapist (BAHT)”. The path to becoming an Accredited Hand Therapist (BAHT) is explained fully on the BAHT website  The simplest route is to attend and pass a Level I course in the first two years of clinical practice in the field followed by three Level II courses. Finally, a Level III ( e.g. a written assignment or a masters module) needs to be completed.

Classroom Based Courses: BAHT Level I

This course is ideal if you have just started a hand therapy rotation or wish to specialise in this field and is aimed at OTs, physios (qualified with less than two years experience in hand therapy and students) & therapy assistants. Level I courses follow a syllabus set by BAHT . The course is three days and covers anatomy, assessment, skills for treatment of common conditions and complications. The course has a one hour online exam taken within two weeks of the end of the course. Please link to BAHT for full details of the BAHT Education process.

Classroom Based Courses: BAHT Level II

BAHT Level II courses are three days on a specialist subject, (e.g. PIPJ, Wrist, Fractures, Thumb) and are aimed at therapists who have completed their Level I or have more than two years experience in hand therapy. There are many courses available covering the breadth of skills and knowledge needed by more experienced hand therapists. There is a written exam on the final day and a written assignment to complete within six weeks of the course. Please link to BAHT for full details of the BAHT Education process.

BAHT II Validated Courses

Designed for occupational therapists and physiotherapists who have more than two years’ experience in Hand Therapy or have passed their BAHT Level I.  The eligibility criteria for BAHT Level II courses varies a little topic by topic.  Some courses welcome rheumatology OTs and MSK physios.  Please apply for the courses you are interested in and we will check your eligibility against the BAHT guidelines.

One, two or all three teachers can be involved in the training depending on the numbers involved (we aim for a ratio of 1:12 delegates depending on the topic). These courses enable your department and colleagues to identify learning needs and request a tailor made course for your team in your workplace. All delegates receive extensive lecture notes for each course.
